First gig in Nashville! - May 30, 2007
Well, I got a call yesterday for my first gig since moving to Nashville (see calendar). It's with a fusion trio fronted by guitarist Andy Gurley. We'll be playing a one hour set for the grand opening of the East Nashville School of Music. It will be exciting, but a bit harrowing for two reasons. First, we've only rehearsed once, about a month ago. I'm recording some simple bass lines and sending Andy the mp3's ... the set will consist of us improvising around those lines for an hour. Second, we're playing right after Stan Lassiter, who is a monster fusion guitarist I grew up listening to. He'll be tough to follow, but fortunately, Andy's no slouch on guitar either ... ;)
An interesting thing about Andy is that his uncle is James Gurley, the guitarist from Big Brother and the Holding Company ... Janice Joplin's band. James is in the rock and roll hall of fame, and has been called "the father of psychedelic rock guitar" by Guitar Player Magazine. He was also the person who gave Andy his first guitar when he was a kid.
I've known Andy for years, but have not gotten the chance to play with him in a long time. This will be fun!
YouTube video - March 21, 2007
Got taped at a gig with Holly O'Reilly (formerly Figueroa) recently, playingthe title track from her new CD, "Gifts and Burdens". It was recorded on a tiny little digital camera, with the built-in mic. I'm actually shocked at how decent the sound quality is. Check it out and leave comments over at Youtube:

Changed name of tune - October 11, 2005
I just discovered that Stanley Clarke wrote and recorded a tune called 'Blues for Mingus' a few years back. I guess I shoulda googled that title before using it. Anyway, I've renamed my tune to 'Midnight With Mingus' ...
New music and photos - October 9, 2005
Just uploaded a live recording of my solo bass piece 'Blues for Mingus'. There are some some rough edges, but overall I'm pretty happy with it.
Also new are photos from a great show this weekend, Susan Welch's CD release party.
